Article Describing Death Notification of Private Hawkins Dillon, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins Dillon of Wilmot, Ark. have been notified by the War Department that their son, Private Hawkins Dillon, Jr., who was reported missing in action on December 11, was killed in action in France on December 13, [1944]. He was with the Infantry with General Patch's army and had been overseas since October. Private Dillon was graduated from Wilmot High school in June 1943, and was a student at the Louisiana State University, majoring in agriculture, at the time of his induction into the army March 9, 1944. A member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, he was a popular student among the classmates. Inducted into the army at Camp Robinson, Pvt. Dillon received his training at Camp Fannin, Texas. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Tom Polk, and Jimmy Dean, one sister, Dorothy: two grandmothers, Mrs. T. M. Dillon of Wilmot, and Mrs. P. D. McKoi, Jones, Louisiana. |

- Services for Mr. William Hawkins Dillon, 87 of Jones, La., were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in the New Hope Baptist Church in the McGinty community at Jones, La. Burial followed services at the Wilmot Cemetery in Wilmont. Mr. Dillon died Sunday, April 24, 1994, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, La., following a lengthy illness. He was a retired farmer and an active senior deacon at the New Hope Baptist Church. He was past Master of the Wilmot Lodge and was a member of St. Andrew's Lodge in Mer Rouge, La. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth McKoin; a son, William Hawkins Dillon, Jr.; and his second wife, Mrs. Oniece Doles. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and R. C. Whitten of Monroe, daughter-in-law Dorothy Wallace Dillon of West Monroe; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Dean and Norma Price Dillon of Baton Rouge, La.; grandchildren Tommy and Alta Dillon of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, James Steven and Katherine Dillon of Baton Rouge, Mary Grace and Robert J. Bozeman of Monroe, Connie and Benny Chelette of West Monroe, Melanie and Lenny Long of Baton Rouge, La., Melinda and Cecil Gorman of Bastrop, and William Conrad Whitten of Jonesville; sisters, Mattie Ova Power of Pine Bluff and Betty Mae Riggin of Portland; sisters-in-law Garlandine Dillon of Dumsa and Patsy Dillon of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sisters and brothers-in-law Lloyd Cates; Leslie and Jane McKoin of Bonita, La., and Marvin and Rita McKoin of Jones; and great grandchildren Thomas and Candice Dillon, Ludia Dillon, Heather and Molly bozeman, Morgan Chelette, John Michael Long, Cecil, Jr., and Daniel Gorman and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Grandsons served as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were the deacons of the New Hope Baptist Church and members of the senior adult Sunday School Class.
