    Will of John C. Cockrell (Transcribed by Larry Cockrell) In The Name of God Amen, I John Cockrell of Nash County being weak of body but of sound mind and disposing memory blessed be God for the same; do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say. First I lend unto my loving wife Anne Cockrell my home plantation and land adjoining thereunto and one negro woman named Peg to her: her lifetime; also I give to her one feather bed and furniture forever: also two cows and calves forever: also twenty barrels of corn and one thousand weight of Pork: also one horse Creature, her choice, to her forever. ITEM. I give to my three sons Joseph Cockrell, John Cockrell and Samuel Cockrell all my land lying on the north side of Tar River adjoining John Paulan, David Pridgen and Well's line, one dividing line to begin at the mouth of the Spring Branch on the river running a due course to Pridgen's line for one dividing line. The other dividing line to begin at the mouth of the Great Branch running a due course to Pridgen's line for the other dividing line. The land lying between the Spring Branch and Well's line to be the first lot, the middle piece to be the second lot. The upper piece joining Paulan's line to be the third lot, and for them to draw for? ITEM. I give to my two sons Vincent and Baldy Cockrell all my land and plantation whereon I now live after my wife's decease, the dividing line to begin at a Hickory Corner in Eatman's line at the back of the orchard running an east course to the backline. Baldy to have all on the north side of the said dividing line and Vincent all on the south side of the said dividing line, which land I give to them and their heirs forever? ITEM. All my estate that I have not here to fore lent nor given away be sold and all my lawful debts paid out of the money arising from such sale and if there is any left to be equally divided among all of my children after my executor is satisfied for his trouble. ITEM. I hereby appoint and nominate my trusty friend John Vick Esq. my executor to this my last will and testament. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 20 day of March 1809.
