- Paul A. Gonce went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 15, 2011. He was born on August 4, 1925, in Haileyville, OK, to parents, Thompson and Abbie (Reed) Gonce. Later the family moved to Oklahoma City, where Paul was a graduate of Central High School. Paul started college while working as a Mail Clerk for the U.S. Postal Service from 1942-43. In 1943 Paul began his service in the Army in World War II as part of the 82nd Airborne as a parachutist. He served for 16 months, receiving numerous medals and honors before becoming injured and receiving a Purple Heart. Paul proudly defended his country and remained a patriotic veteran for the rest of his life. Over many extended family gatherings and holiday dinners, the nieces and nephews enjoyed his war stories and looked up to him as a true "hero." Soon after his honorable discharge from the Army, Paul met and married the love of his life, Jean Bottoms, and completed his Bachelor of Science in Business degree from Oklahoma City University. After obtaining his degree, Paul worked at the IRS for 35 years before retiring and opening a private practice, where he continued to work as a CPA. Paul was a highly intelligent man who was well-read and enjoyed dabbling in oil and gas investments and the stock market. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dr. Robert Gonce; sister, Juanita Dowdy; son, David W. Gonce; and his beloved wife of 55 years, Jean. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Gerry Gonce; numerous nieces and nephews; and his extended family and friends. Visitation will be at Memorial Park, Tuesday from 8 am to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at Memorial Park Historic Chapel, 10:00 am, Wednesday, January 19, 2011, officiated by Pastor Leon Postoak. Interment with military honors will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. [Source: The Oklahoman, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, January 18, 2011]
