    • J. F. Thompson, a prominent and well-known farmer of the Barkada neighborhood, died last Friday morning [August 7, 1908] about 4 o'clock from a chronic kidney and bladder trouble from which he had suffered for many years. The remains were interred that evening at Andrews Chapel with Masonic honors, funeral services being conducted by Rev. T. H. Crowder of the Methodist ministry. Mr Thompson was probably among the oldest residents of the county, having come to this county from Georgia about 1849. He had since lived the life of a good citizen and upright man and merited and possessed the confidence and esteem of a large acquaintance. He was for many years a leading and influential member of the Methodist Church and was one of the founders of Andrews Chapel Church. He was also a prominent member of the Masonic order and was a charter member of the Wilmar lodge. Mr. Thompson is survived by a wife, six sons, Monroe of this place, Will and Tom of Tillar, Lonzo of DeWitt, J. L. of Tampa, Florida and Sam at home with his parents, and three daughters, Mrs. G. F. Penick of Altus, Oklahoma, Mrs. I. W. Bird of Wilmar and Mrs. R. T. Smith of Knox, Texas, all of whom were at the deathbed except of J. L. Thompson of Florida. Mr. Thompson had many friends in Monticello who will regret exceedingly to learn of his death and whose sincere sympathy will be with the family in their bereavement.
