    I, Samuel Tompkins, being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind & memory. I give to my beloved wife Elizabeth Tompkins ten negroes to wit: Jim, Kitty, and those children namely Rachel, Hulder, Patrice, Isham, Brielet, Richard, Miles, Moses or William which she may choose. Also, the tract of land whereon I now live being 402 acres with the household furniture and a proportionable part of the stock of all kinds as my executors may think best, during her natural life and then to return to my estate & become part of the same...I give to sister Sarah Owenby one negro woman named Amy and one horse to be picked from my stock by my executors...I also give to my sister Anne Squire[s] one negro named Caroline and one horse...I also give to my beloved brother Francis Tomkins eight negroes viz: Squire, Ester, Lucy, Veoy, Hark, Jenny, Sicly & Lidid, and the tract of land known as the Hitt tract... I give to my beloved nephew James Tomkins one negro woman named Phebe and all my land joining John Holsonbake...Two-thirds of the remainder of my estate I give and bequeath unto my illegitimate son Stephen Frances Samuel Williams (now an infant) the person & property of which my will & desire shall be in the care of my executors who shall act as they think proper for the welfare of the said infant until it reaches the age of twenty-one years, then the other third...I bequeath unto my executors to sidpose of as they think best according with this my last will & testament. I appoint James Tomkins and Francis Tomkins as executor. Wit: Zord B. Libman, Wm. R. Raynes & Adam X Fulmore. Signed Samuel Tomkins...Received in the Ordinary office the 18 Oct 1826 & proved by the oath of William R. Raynes and the smae time qualified James & Francis Tomkins as executors...
